According to a report by Axios, White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon says Tuesday’s news conference was a “defining moment” for President Donald Trump. He feels that the president fought back against the “globalists” and stood up for “his people.”
During a phone interview with Robert Kuttner, co-founder and co-editor of American Prospect, Bannon seemed happy that Trump’s critics were so focused on race.
The more Democrats “talk about identity politics, I got ’em,” Bannon said. “I want them to talk about racism every day. If the left is focused on race and identity, and we go with economic nationalism, we can crush the Democrats.”
Bannon also criticized the Nazis and white supremacists who protested in Charlottesville, calling them a “bunch of clowns.”
“Ethno-nationalism — it’s losers,” Bannon told Kuttner. “It’s a fringe element, I think the media plays it up too much, and we gotta help crush it.”
