Two-time Emmy winner Jay Thomas, who was known for his roles on Cheers and Murphy Brown, has died at 69 after a battle with cancer according to The New York Daily News.
The comedic actor was best known as Candice Bergen’s boyfriend on the hit CBS show Murphy Brown and as Rhea Perlman’s husband on NBC’s Cheers.
Thomas was born in Kermit, Texas, but grew up in New Orleans. He got his first television gig in 1979 as Remo DaVinci on ABC’s Mork and Mindy. He has gone one to star in a number of television shows including Ray Donovan and even had his own sitcom on CBS from 1992 to 1995 called Love and War. Thomas also appeared on the big screen in movies like Legal Eagles, Mr. Holland’s Opus, and Dragonfly.
Thomas was survived by his wife Sally and three sons Sam, J.T. and Max.
