Athough Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue, the director of the Michigan State Police, has apologized for describing the NFL players who are protesting “degenerates” and other expletives, there are still many calling for her resignation, according to the Detroit Free Press.
The problematic meme that was posted and has since been removed on her personal Facebook, described football players who kneel during the anthem as “millionaire ingrate who hate America and disrespect our armed forces and veterans.”
“We stand with the Heroes, not a bunch of rich, entitled, arrogant, ungrateful, anti-American degenerates,” the post also read.
Etue said the post was “a mistake” and apologized, but many are still insisting she resign from the department, pointing out the agency’s disturbing history with racism.
During an interview with the Detroit Free Press, Kenneth Reed from the Detroit Coatlition Against Police Brutality said, “Etue’s words simply reflect the continued racist actions of the Michigan State Police, both in how they treat our citizens and in how their hiring demographics fail to even approach equity.”
